Scripture reference: John 17:20-21, 1 Corinthians 13:13
From John chapter 17, we read Jesus’ prayer for his disciples, both present during his time, and his future disciples. He prayed, “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.’
From this passage, we see how oneness is so important, Jesus had to make a request to God for the whole church, both present and future!
His disciples had to be of one heart and of one soul for them to be in a position to influence the world to believe and follow Jesus. As you read through the book of Acts of the Apostles, you will see how the first century Church received God’s power when the Holy Spirit came upon them while they were gathered in one place (Acts 1:12-2:4). As you read further in this book, you will note how these believers were able to accomplish more for God because they remained one; talk of the many miracles that happened, the sharing and generosity among the believers and the fellowship that existed, and even when challenges came, they were able to overcome, simply because they were one.
How we pray that the Church today would be as united as the early Church, that she would speak in one voice so that Gods people can have a clear direction. How we pray that as we prepare to hold the general elections later in the year, all Kenyans, irrespective of their ethnic background will choose to remain as one united Nation. Politics and Politicians should not divide us, Kenyans are better off united that divided. Apostle Paul in 1Corinthians 13:13 reminds us, ‘Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.’(NLT)
Dear brothers and sisters, the only thing that can keep us as one united Nation is Love, which the Apostle notes is the greatest of all. Love remains the only true bond that can hold families together, communities together and the entire Nation at large as one. May the Lord help us today and, in the days to come, to be one, just like our Lord and Savior is one with the Father-
There is strength in oneness. Have a blessed week.
